Job Description – Barista, Kitchen & Dessert Assistant
Company: Square Two Restaurant
Location: Dubai, UAE

Role Overview
Prepare coffee and beverages, assist with food and dessert preparation, serve customers, and carry out daily cleaning duties. This is a combined role requiring flexibility to support all areas of the restaurant.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee & Beverage Preparation

- Prepare espresso-based drinks, V60, matcha, juices, and other menu beverages.
- Follow approved recipes, measurements, and presentation standards.
- Adjust grinders, check espresso quality, and maintain coffee equipment.

Kitchen & Dessert Assistance

- Assist with preparing sandwiches, toasts, light meals, and other menu items.
- Wash, cut, weigh, and portion ingredients for daily preparation.
- Assist with making desserts, fillings, toppings, and small baking batches according to recipes.
- Plate, garnish, and pack food and desserts neatly and consistently.
- Label and store ingredients correctly, monitor expiry dates, and minimize waste.
- Follow food hygiene procedures and prevent cross-contamination.

Customer Service & Orders

- Welcome customers, explain menu items, and recommend products.
- Take orders accurately, operate the POS, and handle payments.
- Check and pack takeaway and delivery orders.
- Support the team during busy periods and help achieve daily sales targets.

Cleaning & General Duties

- Wash dishes, utensils, trays, and preparation equipment.
- Clean and sanitize coffee machines, counters, sinks, and food preparation surfaces.
- Clean floors, shelves, refrigerators, storage areas, and other assigned restaurant areas.
- Empty waste bins, replace liners, and keep waste areas clean.
- Complete daily opening, closing, and scheduled deep-cleaning tasks.
- Follow cleaning-product instructions and keep chemicals safely separated from food.
- Report stock shortages, equipment faults, and maintenance needs.

Requirements

- Previous barista experience and basic food preparation skills.
- Experience with desserts or baking is an advantage.
- Ability to follow recipes and ingredient measurements accurately.
- Willingness to assist in the kitchen, prepare desserts, and perform cleaning duties.
- Good customer service, teamwork, personal hygiene, and time management.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work efficiently during busy shifts.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
