Job Details

The Hospital Cleaner maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe environment throughout patient care and public areas. Work directly supports infection prevention and patient safety, following established protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and waste handling.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning and disinfection
• Clean and disinfect patient rooms, bathrooms, corridors, waiting areas, offices, and staff spaces on a set schedule
• Perform discharge and terminal cleans of patient rooms to required standards
• Disinfect high-touch surfaces — bed rails, call buttons, door handles, light switches — at required frequencies
• Follow correct dwell times, dilution ratios, and colour-coded cloth/mop systems
• Respond promptly to spills, including blood and body fluids, using approved procedures
Waste and linen
• Segregate, collect, and remove general, clinical, sharps, and hazardous waste per policy
• Transport soiled linen and restock clean linen supplies
Support duties
• Restock consumables: soap, sanitiser, paper towels, gloves, toilet supplies
• Report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, and low stock to the supervisor
• Maintain cleaning carts, machinery, and storage areas in good order
• Complete cleaning logs, checklists, and audit records accurately
Qualifications
Required

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and detailed procedures
• Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail
