Workshop Manager – Job Description Position Purpose
The Workshop Manager is responsible for the overall performance, quality, customer experience, sales and continuous improvement of EXP Automotive Service Center.
The Workshop Supervisor manages the day-to-day workshop floor, technician allocation and job flow, while the Workshop Manager ensures the overall operation meets EXP standards and business targets.
The role is responsible for improving workshop efficiency, increasing revenue and profitability, maintaining high service quality, developing the team and introducing improvements that enhance operations and customer experience.
Key Accountabilities:
Workshop Operations - Oversee overall workshop performance and ensure operations meet EXP standards. - Manage and support the Workshop Supervisor in achieving daily operational objectives. - Monitor workload, vehicle progress, turnaround time and workshop capacity. - Ensure jobs are completed on time and to the required quality standard. - Identify operational bottlenecks and implement improvements. - Ensure adequate manpower, equipment, tools and resources are available.
Customer Service - Ensure Customer Advisors maintain high customer-service standards. -Monitor the customer journey from vehicle reception through quotation, repair and delivery. - Ensure customers receive accurate and timely updates. - Monitor complaints and ensure corrective actions are implemented. - Review customer feedback and introduce improvements to increase satisfaction and retention.
Sales & Business Growth - Achieve monthly and annual workshop sales targets. - Monitor daily, weekly and monthly sales performance. - Increase average revenue per work order through appropriate service recommendations. - Ensure inspection findings and quotations are properly followed up. - Drive sales of additional services including filters, spark plugs, fluids, brakes, tires, batteries and repairs. - Support service reminder campaigns to convert existing customers into bookings. - Develop new packages, promotions and initiatives to increase workshop traffic and revenue. - Identify corporate, fleet and other business opportunities.
Quality Control - Ensure repairs meet EXP technical and quality standards. - Establish and monitor quality-control processes before vehicle delivery. - Monitor repeat repairs and vehicle comebacks. - Investigate recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions. - Ensure proper diagnostic procedures are followed. - Work with the Workshop Supervisor to continuously improve workmanship.
Team Management - Lead the Workshop Supervisor, Customer Advisors and workshop team. - Establish clear responsibilities, expectations and performance targets. - Monitor individual and team performance. - Identify training and development requirements. - Provide coaching and feedback to improve performance. - Address poor performance and establish improvement actions where necessary. - Support recruitment and manpower planning.
Continuous Improvement - Continuously review workshop processes and identify improvement opportunities. - Introduce new systems, procedures and services that improve efficiency, sales or customer experience. - Identify new revenue opportunities. - Benchmark workshop performance and identify best practices. - Recommend new equipment, technologies and diagnostic capabilities. - Use operational and customer data to support business decisions. - Work with marketing on targeted campaigns and promotions.
Parts & Cost Control - Ensure parts availability supports workshop requirements. Ensure correct parts and quantities are recorded against work orders. - Monitor workshop costs, consumables and unnecessary wastage. - Improve parts planning to minimize delays.
Health, Safety & Workshop Standards - Promote a strong Health & Safety culture. - Ensure workshop safety procedures are followed. - Maintain high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping. - Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained. - Address unsafe conditions and practices immediately.
