Automotive Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Dubai, UAE
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview: Responsible for end-to-end mechanical CAD modeling, chassis interface engineering, and fabrication drawing for vehicle modifications, structural brackets, and specialized superstructures. This role requires close coordination with local CNC/fabrication workshops and hands-on assembly support on the workshop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D fabrication drawings using CATIA and AutoCAD for chassis mountings, subframes, roll structures, brackets, and external vehicle hardware.
Create production-ready manufacturing drawings applying proper GD&T, fit clearances, and material callouts suited for CNC machining (milling/turning), laser cutting, sheet metal bending, and welding.
Conduct physical vehicle packaging assessments, point measurements, and reverse engineering to integrate assemblies onto factory chassis platforms seamlessly.
Generate and manage engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical production cut sheets.
Oversee on-site prototype fit-ups in the workshop; identify and resolve mechanical clearance interferences and assembly tolerance stack-ups.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent practical design background.
High proficiency in CATIA (Part Design, Assembly, Sheetmetal) and AutoCAD.
Practical knowledge of machining capabilities, sheet metal tooling constraints, structural welding practices, and metal alloys (steel, aluminum).
Solid grasp of foundational vehicle chassis dynamics, suspension packaging, drivetrain clearance, and load-bearing structures.
Valid driving license (valid UAE driving license preferred, or transferable home country license).
Strong working English proficiency to liaise directly with workshop technicians and component fabricators.
Prior experience in commercial vehicle upfitting, 4x4 off-road fabrication, or special-purpose vehicle structures is a distinct advantage.
