Job Details
The Accounts Assistant supports the finance team with day-to-day bookkeeping, invoice processing, reconciliations, and record-keeping. The role keeps the ledgers accurate and up to date, freeing senior finance staff to focus on reporting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts payable
• Process supplier invoices: verify against purchase orders and delivery notes, code, and enter into the accounting system
• Prepare payment runs and process expense claims
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve queries with vendors
• Maintain the supplier master file
Accounts receivable
• Raise and issue customer invoices and credit notes
• Allocate incoming receipts and maintain the sales ledger
• Monitor aged debtors and follow up on overdue accounts
• Respond to customer billing queries
General ledger and reconciliations
• Perform bank reconciliations and post daily transactions
• Reconcile petty cash and company card expenditure
• Assist with journal entries, accruals, and prepayments
• Support month-end close: schedules, ledger reviews, and supporting documentation
Reporting and compliance
• Assist with [VAT / sales tax / GST] returns and statutory filings
• Prepare routine reports and schedules for management and auditors
• Maintain orderly, retrievable financial records per retention policy
• Support annual audit with requested documentation
Administrative
• Maintain filing systems for invoices, receipts, and contracts
• Liaise with suppliers, customers, and internal departments on finance matters
• Handle finance correspondence and general office support as required
Qualifications
Required
• [Diploma or Bachelor's degree] in accounting, finance, or commerce — or part-qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, CPA)
• [1–3] years in a bookkeeping or accounts support role
• Solid Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas)
• Accuracy, numeracy, and comfort with high-volume transaction work
• Discretion with confidential financial information
