Mike doesn’t need pity, he needs a home.
When the stray cats attacked him, he just stood there and let them have their way with him. That’s exactly his nature – gentle, almost too good-natured for the streets – and it nearly cost him his life. My neighbour and I took him in afterwards. His wounds have now healed completely; he’s in perfect health and feels safe.
He’s now settled into his own little routine. After his meal, he wants to play for a bit before curling up contentedly, usually right next to you – not on your lap, that’s not his thing. He seeks closeness in his own way: when he wants you, he talks to you. He’ll let you pick him up; he might grumble briefly, but then he’ll enjoy a minute or two of cuddles before he wants to be put down again, and that’s perfectly fine. He loves nothing more than sitting by the window and watching what’s happening down on the street he once had to leave behind.
It was clear from the start that he could only stay with us temporarily. He now has about two weeks left to find a permanent home or a foster home; after that, he’ll be back exactly where it all began, amongst cats who aren’t like him.
Mike is 2-3 years old, neutered, vaccinated, house-trained and is just waiting for someone who appreciates his nature – someone who can leave him in peace when he wants to be left alone, and who appreciates it when he comes round of his own accord.
Free adoption or a free foster home until he finds his forever home – both would help him immensely.
