Description

Large antique hand-carved wooden statue originating from Northern Thailand. According to its history, the piece was discovered underground in Northern Thailand and is believed to be an old traditional Lanna-style devotional figure. Statues in the wai prayer pose symbolize respect, peace, blessing and spiritual harmony in Thai culture, and were traditionally placed in temples, homes and ceremonial spaces.

The sculpture is carved from solid hardwood and features authentic natural aging, aged patina, visible hand-tool carving marks and weathering consistent with its age and history. The underground preservation and natural wear give the wood a unique texture and character that cannot be replicated by modern factory decor pieces.

Approximately human-sized and very heavy, making it an exceptional statement piece for luxury interiors, villas, spas, meditation rooms, restaurants or collectors of Southeast Asian antiques and tribal art.
