The Logistics Operator handles the physical and administrative movement of goods through the facility — receiving, storing, picking, packing, and dispatching — while maintaining accurate system records and meeting service-level targets.
Key Responsibilities
Inbound
• Receive, unload, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing lists
• Inspect goods for damage, shortages, or discrepancies and log issues
• Record receipts in the WMS/ERP system and put stock away in correct locations
Storage & inventory
• Maintain stock in designated locations following FIFO/FEFO principles
• Conduct cycle counts and support periodic stocktakes
• Investigate and correct stock discrepancies with supervisor approval
• Keep aisles, racking, and staging areas clean and obstruction-free
Outbound
• Pick orders accurately against pick lists or scanner instructions
• Pack, label, and palletize goods to shipping and customer specification
• Prepare dispatch documentation: delivery notes, waybills, customs paperwork where applicable
• Load vehicles safely with correct weight distribution and load securing
Equipment & safety
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and handheld scanners in line with certification
• Complete daily equipment checks and report defects
• Follow all HSE procedures, including PPE use and manual handling technique
• Participate in safety briefings and incident reporting
Coordination
• Liaise with drivers, carriers, and internal teams on schedules and priorities
• Escalate delays, damages, or capacity issues promptly
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent; logistics certification an advantage
• 1–3 years' warehouse, distribution, or freight experience
• Valid forklift licence (counterbalance and/or reach) where required
• Working knowledge of WMS/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Manhattan, or similar)
• Valid driving licence may be required depending on site
Skills & Attributes
• Accurate and detail-focused — picking and data errors carry real cost
• Comfortable with barcode scanners and basic computer entry
• Physically capable of sustained lifting, bending, and standing
• Dependable timekeeping and flexibility around peak-season demand
• Team-oriented with clear communication
