Role Overview
To provide legal advice, guidance and support and manage assigned areas and assist the relevant Line Manager and senior management to manage exposure to legal risk and discharge their responsibilities for legal matters affecting HSBC Group entities in the MENA region, with particular emphasis on RBWM related matters;
To provide proactive and expert legal advice, guidance and support and identify, formulate, co-ordinate and communicate policies, procedures and controls to ensure that the Group's exposure to legal risk is effectively managed on a variety of matters for the MENA Regional Legal team and local legal teams, including on digital initiatives, investment products, mortgages, cards, personal loans, collections, insurance products, and vehicle finance,;
To provide legal advice, guidance and support to the UAE and other countries in the MENA region to ensure that the HSBC Group's exposure to legal risk is managed and the execution of the Group business and operational strategies and initiatives is facilitated.
To lead and manage projects and initiatives which will assist in managing legal risk.
To attend management meetings and provide legal advice, guidance and support to RBWM management in managing legal and reputational risk.

To contribute to the achievement of the objectives of HSBC in the MENA Region by providing effective legal advice, guidance and support.
Provide counsel and legal support on a variety of legal matters relevant to the RBWM business
To be considered to be a trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner to RBWM business departments.
Provide support and guidance to the business with regard to legal and reputational risks.
Supporting senior management in the execution of business and operational strategies and initiatives and attending senior management meetings.
Providing support to the Heads of RBWM in the MENA countries.
Project managing and leading important initiatives which impact the MENA countries and help mitigate risks.
Implementing new initiatives to streamline processes for the MENA countries to ensure exposure to legal and regulatory risk is managed in a commercially sensitive and practical manner.
Providing training and guidance to the RBWM business and frontline staff in MENA.
Provide prompt, commercial, practical and complex legal advice to the assigned areas.
Providing high quality advice to senior management.
Ensure legal management is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise and their implications.
Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within the MENA Regional legal team, lawyers globally and relevant business departments and senior business managers.
Share legal knowledge and best practices with legal and other colleagues.
Contribute to managing legal risk in the MENA Region, legal and relevant business departments, to ensure that the interests of the HSBC Group are adequately protected
Assist the business to remain compliant with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM
Take account of all regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk
Maintain HSBC internal control standard and assist with RCA and audit points and support smaller country/entity heads as appropriate.


Qualifications :

Experience & Qualifications
Qualified Lawyer with at least 2 years post qualification experience. Knowledge of Retail Banking and/or Wealth Management is an advantage but not essential.
Corporate experience is an advantage, but not essential.
Comprehensive knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business and personnel and a clear understanding of HSBC's corporate culture;
Strong ability to prioritise;
Strong communication and inter-personal skills;
Lateral thinking/problem solving.
