CNC Lathe Operator
Key Responsibilities
• Machine Setup & Tooling: Selects, aligns, and secures the correct cutting tools, inserts, and fixtures. Sets machine offsets and loads the required CNC programs.
• Material Loading: Mounts raw metal bars or billets securely into the lathe chuck or collet, ensuring proper alignment to prevent defects or accidents.
• Operation & Monitoring: Runs the CNC lathe to perform turning, facing, threading, or boring operations. Monitors the machining process for abnormal sounds, tool wear, or vibration.
• Quality Inspection: Measures finished components using precision instruments (micrometres, callipers, thread gauges) to ensure dimensions strictly match engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Routine Maintenance: Performs daily machine maintenance, including checking coolant levels, lubricating ways, and clearing metal chips from the work area.
VMC Operator
Key Responsibilities
• Machine Setup & Fixturing: Clamps and aligns raw material blocks or castings onto the VMC table using vices, fixtures, or T-slots. Selects and loads the required cutting tools into the automatic tool changer (ATC).
• Program Loading & Referencing: Uploads the correct CNC program and sets the work coordinate system (finding the $X$, $Y$, and $Z$ axis zero points) using edge finders or probes.
• Multi-Axis Machining: Operates the vertical mill to perform complex milling, drilling, boring, slotting, and tapping operations on flat or contoured surfaces.
• In-Process Inspection: Monitors the cutting process, adjusts spindle speeds and feed rates if needed, and pauses operations to measure depths and tolerances using vernier callipers, depth gauges, and micrometres.
• Maintenance & Cleanliness: Maintains optimal coolant concentration and flow to protect tools and workpieces, clears heavy chip build-up from the enclosure, and performs daily lubrication checks.
CNC Laser Cutting Operator
Key Responsibilities
• Machine Setup & Lens Calibration: Selects and installs the correct nozzle and focus lens based on material type and thickness. Calibrates the laser beam path and aligns the cutting head.
• Material Loading & Nesting: Loads heavy metal sheets or plates (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium) onto the shuttle table using a crane or forklift, ensuring the material sits perfectly flat.
• Gas & Parameter Management: Sets and monitors the appropriate assist gases (Oxygen for carbon steel, Nitrogen for stainless steel) and adjusts laser power, cutting speed, and gas pressure parameters.
• Execution & Monitoring: Executes the CNC cutting program. Continuously monitors the cutting process to prevent thermal runaway, slag build-up, or head crashes with tipped parts.
• Quality Control & Sorting: Inspects finished parts for cut quality, dross, and dimensional accuracy using callipers or gauges. De-burs edges and organizes parts by job number.
• Routine Maintenance: Cleans the machine bed, empties scrap trays, checks dust collector filters, and wipes down internal optics to maintain beam quality.
AutoCAD Expert
Key Responsibilities
• 2D Drafting & 3D Modelling: Transforms rough sketches, conceptual designs, and verbal instructions into precise, scaled 2D engineering drawings and 3D models.
• Manufacturing Blueprint Creation: Generates detailed shop drawings, fabrication blueprints, assembly layouts, and sectional views with exact dimensions, tolerances, and weld symbols.
• Standardization & Layers: Establishes and maintains drafting standards, including consistent layer management, line weights, font styles, and standardized title blocks.
• Design Verification: Cross-checks drawing dimensions against material specifications (e.g., steel plate thicknesses) and workshop machine limitations to ensure the design can be physically fabricated.
• File Conversion & Export: Converts standard CAD designs into compatible formats (like DXF or DWG files) for CNC machining, laser cutting, or plasma cutting software.
• Revision Control: Manages drawing updates, tracks engineering change notices (ECNs), and ensures the workshop floor always receives the latest, approved version.
