Job Description – Interior Architect
Position: Interior Architect
Department: Design & Technical

Reporting To: Design Manager / Project Manager / Managing Director
Job Purpose
The Interior Architect will be responsible for developing, coordinating and delivering interior design and technical drawing packages for fit-out projects from concept through to construction and completion.
The role requires strong knowledge of interior fit-out detailing, authority submission drawings, construction drawings, joinery details, material specifications and site coordination. The candidate must be able to translate design concepts into technically accurate and buildable drawings while coordinating with MEP, structural, joinery and other project disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Interior Design & Technical Drawings
Develop detailed interior design and technical drawing packages based on approved concepts and client requirements.
Prepare detailed layout, flooring, reflected ceiling, elevations, sections and detail drawings.
Develop detailed joinery drawings and coordinate with the joinery team and workshop.
Prepare wall, floor and ceiling details suitable for construction.
Prepare door schedules, finish schedules and other project documentation.
Ensure drawings are accurate, coordinated and suitable for site execution.
Develop drawings from concept/design stage through to construction and as-built documentation.
2. Authority Submission Drawings
The candidate must have practical knowledge of preparing and coordinating authority submission drawings for interior fit-out projects.
Responsibilities include:
Prepare drawings and documentation required for relevant authority submissions.
Understand typical requirements of Dubai Municipality, Civil Defence, DDA, Trakhees, TECOM and other relevant authorities, depending on project location.
Coordinate architectural drawings with MEP, fire & life safety and other specialist drawings.
Ensure submission drawings comply with applicable authority requirements and project guidelines.
Review authority comments and revise drawings accordingly.
Coordinate with consultants and authority submission teams until approvals are obtained.
Maintain proper records of submissions, revisions, comments and approvals.
Ensure approved drawings are properly issued to the project team for construction.
3. Construction Documentation
Produce detailed construction drawings based on approved designs.
Prepare coordinated drawing packages for site execution.
Review drawings for constructability and identify design conflicts before construction.
Coordinate dimensions, levels, materials and finishes across different drawings.
Prepare detailed sections and enlarged details where required.
Incorporate approved client comments and design revisions.
Maintain proper revision control and drawing registers.
4. MEP & Multi-Discipline Coordination
Coordinate architectural and interior drawings with MEP services.
Coordinate ceiling layouts with lighting, HVAC, fire alarm, sprinklers and other services.
Identify clashes and discrepancies between architectural, MEP and specialist drawings.
Attend coordination meetings with consultants, contractors and project teams.
Ensure all design changes are reflected consistently across the drawing package.
5. Site Coordination
Conduct regular site visits to verify existing conditions and dimensions.
Coordinate with the Project Manager, Site Engineer and subcontractors.
Provide technical clarification to site teams.
Review site conditions against approved drawings.
Prepare sketches and revised drawings where required.
Assist in resolving technical and design-related site issues.
Review shop drawings and samples submitted by subcontractors and suppliers.
Assist with snagging, inspections and final handover documentation.
6. Client & Consultant Coordination
Attend client and consultant meetings when required.
Understand client requirements and translate them into practical design solutions.
Prepare drawings for client presentations and approvals.
Incorporate approved comments into drawings.
Coordinate with external consultants and specialist contractors.
Communicate technical issues clearly and professionally.
7. Drawing & Document Control
Maintain accurate drawing registers and revision histories.
Ensure only approved and latest drawings are issued to site.
Follow company drawing standards and naming conventions.
Maintain organised project folders and technical documentation.
Issue drawings through appropriate document-control procedures.
Prepare and maintain as-built drawings at project completion.
Required Technical Skills
Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD.
Strong understanding of interior architecture and fit-out detailing.
Knowledge of authority submission requirements in Dubai/UAE.
Ability to prepare professional submission and construction drawing packages.
Knowledge of joinery and millwork detailing.
Understanding of MEP coordination.
Ability to read architectural, structural and MEP drawings.
Knowledge of materials, finishes and construction methods.
Knowledge of drawing standards, scales, dimensions and technical documentation.
Knowledge of SketchUp, Revit, 3D software or Adobe Creative Suite would be an advantage.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Interior Architecture, Architecture or Interior Design.
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in interior fit-out.
UAE experience is strongly preferred.
Proven experience working on commercial, hospitality, retail, residential or corporate fit-out projects.
Practical experience with authority submission drawings and approvals is highly preferred.
Experience coordinating construction drawings and site execution.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a technically strong Interior Architect who understands how a design moves from concept to authority approval and finally to construction. They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced fit-out environment, coordinating with multiple disciplines and resolving technical issues both in the office and on site.
Strong authority submission and construction drawing experience is essential for this position.
