Job Purpose
The Quantity Surveyor will manage tendering, cost estimation, pricing, project enquiries, commercial documentation, submittals, and general engineering administration.
The role requires coordination with consultants, clients, suppliers, subcontractors, site engineers, and project managers to ensure quotations, tenders, project documents, and commercial records are prepared accurately and submitted on time.
Main Responsibilities
Tendering and Estimation
Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and consultant requirements.
Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil, architectural, MEP, fit-out, and subcontracted works.
Conduct quantity take-offs from drawings.
Prepare and price BOQs.
Send enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors.
Obtain and compare quotations.
Prepare quotation comparison sheets.
Negotiate competitive prices with suppliers and subcontractors.
Identify missing items, unclear specifications, exclusions, and commercial risks.
Prepare tender clarifications and technical queries.
Submit tenders before the required deadline.
Maintain tender records and follow up on submitted quotations.
Project Commercial Management
Prepare project budgets and cost breakdowns after award.
Monitor actual costs against the approved budget.
Review subcontractor quotations, invoices, and payment applications.
Prepare subcontractor work orders and purchase request information.
Measure completed works on site.
Prepare interim payment applications and monthly valuations.
Prepare variation quotations and supporting cost breakdowns.
Maintain records for additional works and client instructions.
Assist with final accounts and project cost reconciliation.
Highlight cost overruns, delays, and commercial risks to management.
Enquiries and Procurement Coordination
Prepare clear enquiries for materials, equipment, and subcontracted works.
Send enquiries with the correct drawings, specifications, and quantities.
Follow up with suppliers and subcontractors for quotations.
Ensure quotations meet project specifications.
Coordinate with procurement before placing orders.
Confirm material quantities, delivery periods, payment terms, warranties, and exclusions.
Assist in evaluating suppliers and subcontractors.
Engineering Administration and Submittals
Prepare and maintain material submittals.
Prepare technical submittal packages with datasheets, certificates, samples, and compliance statements.
Maintain submittal, shop drawing, RFI, inspection, and approval logs.
Prepare RFIs and clarification requests.
Follow up with consultants for approvals.
Coordinate with engineers to close consultant comments.
Assist in preparing method statements, prequalification documents, and project reports.
Maintain proper filing of drawings, quotations, approvals, instructions, and correspondence.
Ensure the latest approved drawings and documents are used.
Project Coordination
Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, foremen, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
Attend tender clarification and project coordination meetings when required.
Review project requirements before procurement or subcontract award.
Support site teams with quantities, specifications, approved rates, and commercial documents.
Track pending approvals, enquiries, orders, and variations.
Prepare weekly updates for management.
