Dual 3840×2160 panels (one per eye) with an exceptionally wide field of view — built for flight sims, sim racing and anything where immersion matters more than convenience.
Confirmed working on current NVIDIA drivers. There's a widespread belief online that the 8KX stops working on anything newer than driver 566.36. On my system that's not the case — it runs on NVIDIA 616.64 (September 2026) at full native resolution, 4320×3840 @ 90 Hz, holding a steady 90 fps with zero dropped frames on an RTX 4090. No driver rollback, no DDU, nothing exotic.
What a buyer should know:
Use Pimax Play 1.44.2, or 2.x. Pimax's current 2.x software has dropped proper support for this generation, most titles still work most importantly it can't enable Parallel Projection, which some titles (Star Wars: Squadrons, Space Engine) need to render correctly on Pimax's angled displays, youll need to adjust the horizontal alignment in the app. Version 1.44.2 handles it properly and is a free download from Pimax's own site.
Pimax Play performs an online licence check. It renews itself when the software can reach Pimax's servers; occasionally a check times out and you relaunch. Currently valid to March 2027.
Wants a direct rear USB 3.0 port (not a hub) plus its DC power adapter, both included.
Requires DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC — any modern GPU is fine.
Honest about the trade-off: this headset's strength is field of view, not sharpness-per-degree. It uses fresnel lenses, so newer headsets with aspheric or pancake optics look clearer even at lower resolution. If maximum FOV is what you want, very little touches it including current models.
