1971 release, first time introduced The Security Thread for all Irish banknotes.
The portrait on the note is of Lady Hazel Lavery, an American-born artist's model and socialite who was married to the Irish painter Sir John Lavery.
Sir John was commissioned to paint the representation of Ireland for the new banknotes in 1928, and he chose his wife as the model.
Lady Lavery's portrait appeared on all Republic of Ireland banknotes from 1928 until mid of 70's.
