الوصف
• Sandstone sculpture with finely carved details and a serene facial expression
• Kingdom of Khmer, Cambodia (10th–12th Century)
• Skirt garment wrapped around the waist; jewellery carved in high relief on chest and hips
• Mounted on a modern plinth
• Dimensions (without plinth): 120 × 37 × 18 cm (H × W × D)
• Overall height on plinth: 137 cm
• Condition: Good, with age-consistent wear
This impressive Cambodian sandstone sculpture of Vishnu dates from the 10th–12th Century, during the height of the Khmer kingdom. It displays refined craftsmanship, most visible in the intricate pleating of the garment and the expressive facial features.
The face shows a calm, meditative expression with wide-open eyes, a broad nose and full lips. Braided hair rises into a traditional topknot. The torso is adorned with finely worked jewellery in high relief, while the lower body is wrapped in a carefully carved pleated robe.
The piece remains in good condition for its age, with natural weathering expected from a centuries-old sandstone sculpture. Comparable Khmer sandstone torsos of similar size typically sell internationally in the AED 25,000–45,000 range.
Provenance. Originally purchased from Sand Stone Antiques, Bangkok, Thailand in 1998. Legally exported from Thailand to the United Kingdom in 1999 (export documentation available). Subsequently imported from the UK to the UAE in 2006 with full customs clearance. In continuous private ownership since 1999.
Please note: The sculpture is extremely heavy and requires professional movers.
Serious collectors only. No time wasters please.
