end of contract in dubai

i used to live in Sharjah, where when the contract ends you can just leave with no obligation from your part to give notice. Now i am living in dubai and when the contract is ending in a few days, the landlord says you cannot leave without giving a 2 month notice. is this correct? is this the procedure in dubai. Reply would help and thanks.
