Any other Brits need to do UK Self-Assessment tax return?

Hi,

So reminder for my fellow British expats that the Self-Assessment tax deadline is midnight on 31st January.

It seems like Non-domiciled Brits cannot submit their returns online without completing additional forms which have to be purchased from 3rd party accounting companies. I think its called an SA109.

Would be interested to hear from anyone else in a similar situation, particularly about whether it is necessary to purchase and if so, the best place to do so

thanks

As long as you have filled P85 When you left UK, and had UTR , walahhhh,,, yes you can(do it online).

@Nabeel,, only need to pay if an income is arising for example house let. Rental income is taxable at fooking 20% after all expenses ofcourse.

Hi Ummair,

The HMRC website for Self Assessment says:

"You cannot use this service if in the tax year ending 5 April 2011 you received:
multiple chargeable events

trust, settlement or estate income

and / or you were:
non-resident or non-domiciled in the UK"

* If you were non-domiciled it says :
"If you want to file online you will need to use commercial software.

Find out more about using commercial software [LINK]

I filled out a P85 but Im pretty sure now that I also need to fill out an SA109.

One other question though. Rental income is taxable at 20% after expenses, but after expenses does the personal income allowance still count?

Hello

Trouble with Rental income is, if your property is handled by estate agent, you have to fill a separate form, where you need your estate agents tax registration number, just to tell hmrc, that tax shouldnt be deducted at source at 20% because you pay bloody mortage on it. I dont recall the form number at the mo, secondly, these are changes, that tory feckers brought for this tax year, remember, taxing non doms. I did it all online last year, without any issues. And i do have rental income. Commercial software is another rubbish, any accountant has access to hmrc portal, and thats what they call commercial software, i am going to organize this towards end of this week with a friend who is going to do it for me.Wohhhoo for free.

Allowable expenses for rental are as follows
1. Estate agent fee(if registered)
2. Home Insurance - Building part only
3. Mortgage payments
4. Repair - there is a limit

And nope, PA doesnt count.
