It's actually because of the static electricity built up inside of you. Usually because of the shoes/clothes you were.

Spending a little on big brands would solve this issue. The material used in them is usually of high quality and doesn't let static build up in the body. If you don't wanna do that (or can't), then twice a day, touch the ground (road/pavement...basically any 'hard & rough' surface...NO TILES) twice a day. This process is called 'earthing', and it discharges your extra electricity into the earth.

You aren't serious about spending on the "Big brands" are you?
Must tell our guys to put that in our next ESD recertification exam...

Now the thing is that everything is made up of electrical charges - positive and negative (basic elementary physics). Whenever two materials are in contact with each other, the charges redistribute between themselves. The little shock we experience is in around the 5000volts range (2000 - 4000volts is common and we don't feel it). So what material you wear and come in contact with has a HUGE impact on static build up (after all, we're not portable power generators).

Most shoes nowadays have rubber/plastic soles...that, along with an insulation medium (tiles, carpets) builds up a lotta static too. This can be avoided by wearing 'pure' leather shoes...and you don't find pure leather in cheap stores, mate. And that's also why most pricey cars come with leather interiors (that, and it looks classy). Btw, it's common to have a build up of around 10,000volts after getting out of your car.

And for clothes, pure cotton's the best as it has a very low static threshold.

And if static electricity's really busting your nuts, get an anti-static wristband (available at most electronic stores). Almost all techies use it to prevent accidentally frying the chips they're handling.

Mebbe I should've clarified what I meant when I said to get the big brands. If you get the same materials elsewhere, then please, go for it. Otherwise, fall prey to the capitalistic society.

You need to get a signed and stamped letter of No Objection from your sponsor to travel on metro... and if you dont ,, these metro handles will bend you over and then give you shocks,,,taking you to new horizons.

I swear to God,i never travelled on metro..nor have any plans,,,its just the manual says that.

Shorn! next time buy the ticket before boarding the metro, honestly you won't get any shock!!!

Mate - you miss my point it doesn't matter if the material is cheap/expensive, the only common materials that doesn't build up big charges are stuff like cotton and leather.
Maybe I should mention I work in an ESD certified workshop and the only way to guarantee no ESD is wrist or boot straps to ground.

I used to tell staff that I had a special anti-static spray so they would not get shocked. Then I would spray water on them.

Shorn - I was shocked reading your comments. You seem amped up about this situation. You need to unplug and relax a bit more. If you keep going like this you will be charged with something. I know you can't be static with these types of issues but just put on some AC/DC and get your energy out this way.
