Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The news is finally out.. and I had a feeling it was to do with the elevators..

Apparently it happened last month too when a group found themselves stuck 430 meters en route to the observation desk..

This time, the elevator got stuck with smoke coming out of it.. and people were taken out of the elevator via ladder.. meanwhile 60 people were stuck on the observation deck all scared..

Quote the official said "It is absolutely normal for a new building to face minor issues such as this, which involved one of the Burj Khalifa's elevators"

Now correct me if i'm wrong but would this have been tested over and over to make things perfect? especially the elevators.. Once again the quality of work and lack of proper testing .. well.. quite a shame really!!

i'd been there.. and to tell you honestly. It's not worth of your 100 AED. From the elevator at the ground floor, it will direct you to the 124th floor where is the viewing deck.. Elevator is very impressive though, it shows the making of the burj on its wall.

Souvenirs like a key chain costs 50AED. Photoshop pictures 2 pcs for 100AED.

Just a bit of advice to those planning to go there... Great timings would be late afternoon early evening.

In fairness guys, testing and commissioning does not always find every problem, take toyotas recent recall as an example, it is not really unusual for there to be teething problems like this, not just here but in other parts of the world too.

Related to the elevator drama a few weeks back perhaps??
...Emaar Properties blamed the closure on "unexpected high traffic"..
or was there a possibility of foul play??

Yep it should be like 50drh tops. The gift shop is lousy too but I am glad I saw it anyway.

Not relevant to the Burj but a similar thing happened to me in the new Loft's elevator. Dropped a couple of floors before the emergency brakes kicked in at the 10th floor. Emergency button wasn't working and only got out when a maintenance man heard us banging on the door and forced the doors open... then he looked at us like we were idiots when we didnt get in the next elevator and took the stairs...

It is like anything new, overpriced, I will wait for it to become a fair and reasonable rate before I part with money to go and have a look at the desert!!!

doc--you got it completely wrong as usual..lets make it bit more simple to understand..
poor service comes from PEOPLE...ok..is that easy to understand..ok..
here people are complaining for poor service in Burj Khalifa...nothing wrong with that..
but does everybody agree that things can go wrong anytime ,anywhere and everywhere in today's world with such a complicated technology and a lot of demand..
i typed few fresh examples above..it is normal for human being to expect that everything has to be and run perfect but we need to use even common sense..
I don't think that the owner of Burj Khalifa want his business closed but the health and safety and the life of people comes first before anything else...so it is not that poor service after all..
Just I can not stand people living here and enjoying life here jump straight way to wrong and stupid conclusions and love to complain and nag for something that is expected to happen anytime..it could happen again and it will be normal as per health and safety regulation...
maybe Dubai customer service is not as much good as in west but you can not blame every time the service...it has become a matter of cry wolf..

it is normal to have monthly problems with maintenance of a building that is only ten floor let alone with a building of that size as Burj Khalifa so please use a bit more your little brain.

1. for smoke to be coming from an elevator indicates something a bit more serious...... modern elevators should always "fail safe".... this one did not....
2. for the "staff' to refuse to let people down for an hour - strange, as there is an enclosed stairway
3. add 1 and 2 together plus a probable level of poor security staff training and you get a potential extremely serious situation

things do wrong from time to time, everyone knows that, yet without complaints (and ppl withdrawing from using/buying etc....) why should the cause of the failure be rectified?

an underlying problem with Dubai (and most likely this comes from culture more than anything else) is the failure of ppl in authority to be more transparent and truthful; it would help if they developed a "how are we going to fix this" attitude rather than the current "it's not my fault, let's blame someone/something else"........

and please refrain from personal insults... they do very little for your own standing

Scott, huge difference in the issue mate. Toyota manufacture's millions, UAE made one building to be the tallest in the World.

From a "One in the World" perspective, it should have been perfect with no glitches in the beginning. But just like the metro, also a one of a kind in the world.. it just looks bad when you're building a one of a kind and you don't perfect it.

Yeah eventually there could be issues.. leaks, etc whatever.. but not in the first month of its opening and certainly not the elevators that take you to the observation deck.

Subcontractor were rushing to deliver as there was allot of delay from the civil contractor... anyways this elevator is the first of its kind...
