Cards: Types of fare

There are four types of unified automated fare collection cards called
Nol Silver, Nol Blue, Nol Gold and Nol Red.

Nol Silver Card
Will be the most economical and frequently used card. It will have an e-purse rechargeable up to Dh500. This card can be used immediately upon purchase, rechargeable at any ticket booth.

Nol Blue Card
Is a personalised card (with user photo inserted on the card) and no other user can use it should it be lost or stolen. It will be launched early next year. It will have e-purse and can have credit of up to Dh500. It enables the user to obtain secure online services such as balance recharging, inquiry about transactions, lodging complaints and receiving SMS.

Nol Gold Card
Will be used for the commuters intending to use the Gold Class cabin in the trains. However, the users will be able to use this card for Silver Class as well.

Nol Red Card
Costs Dh2 and can be recharged for up to 10 journeys maximum. It is good for the occasional users of public transport. This ticket doesn't have an e-purse account, and has to be pre-paid with the correct journey type. It will be valid for 90 days from the date of purchase.

What is Nol?

The unified automated fare collection card (UAFC) has been named after an old Farsi word nol. "Nol" means "fare" or "cost of using transport".
The word is not in common use these days.

Nol is similar to another Arabic word karwa - which is commonly used in Kuwaiti, Bahraini and Qatari dialects.

Karwa means "fare" or "cost" of doing any service or certain job. In the past, nol was used to refer to fare or cost of using horse and donkey transportation.

someone explain this to me, how is the metro helping reducing congestion when it'll be responsible for putting 787 buses in the roads? ... altogether those 787 double decker busses can carry much more people than what you can fit in the trains.

aaaah Bob you are a train spotter geek person !! cool

anyway - the rumour has it that many of the statiions will just not be ready - the building shell for many havent been finished and there is HUGE pressure on the fitout crews to finish but they should have started already. Many of the stations will be boarded up and youll only be able to pass through them but not use them. Thats from a friend of mine working for the interior fitout company and they are under immense pressure

Car parkings for rail users
Car parking facility will be provided to metro users on the concept of "park and ride".
There will be two major parking lots on Red Line — one at Rashidiya Station for 3,000 cars and at Jumeirah Islands Station for another 3,000 cars.

The biggest parking lot will be built at Al Qusais Station with a capacity of 6,000 cars. It will cater to users coming from Sharjah.

There will be small parking spaces at each station while each station will be linked to other mode of transportation, including taxis, buses and at some stations water transport.

A senior official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that the name of the earlier known BurJuman Station has been changed to Khalid Bin Waleed Station. It is also the name of the road on which the station is located in Bur Dubai.

The Dubal Metro station located between Ibn Battuta Station and the Jebel Ali Industrial Station on Shaikh Zayed Road has also been renamed as 'Energy Station'. The station was earlier named after the Dubai Aluminum Company Ltd (DUBAL).

The minimum price for naming a station starts from Dh6 million per year and Dh60 million for 10-years....

none of the retailers will be ready for the opening of the metro. till date they have not awarded any of them.

We are still waiting for our note.Planing skills are poor as usual. Its more important to open on a fancy date than a actual completion of the project

plain and simple , its just another date that was announced that contractors cant stick to .
only 11 stations will open , which is silly , coz u never know when the rest are gona be done !
and its worse about the retail, coz the metro is gona open to the public , and then the interior work on the retail shops will start , which is even sillier ..
i wonder who the project manager is .... we need someone to blame !
